The Bouquet

Kytice is one of the greatest treasures of Czech literature. The unique charm of selected poems written by Karel Jaromír Erben became the inspiration for the seven-part series of the Czech Mint. The first silver medal was dedicated to the poem that gave the name to the entire collection.

The title poem
Kytice with six verses is the shortest one in the whole book. The first three verses tell of orphans who mourned so much for their mother that her soul returned in the form of flowers that covered her mound. “The legend about the beginnings of the thyme (mateřídouška in czech), as it is mentioned, is told in the former Klatovský region in Bohemia; and it undoubtedly came from a mere interpretation of the word itself: the mother's sip, that is, the mother's soul, ” Erben explained. Other verses, however, suggest that the poem is a patriotic allegory in fact. The collection was created during Bach's absolutism, which suppressed Czech cultural efforts. The mother thus becomes a symbol of the homeland, her children represent a nation and the flowers of the motherwort change into a reputation that provides patriots with hope and faith in a better future

The medal maker
MgA. Jan Hásek became the author of the silver medal.

The medal is set in a special packaging that includes a
complete poem. You can store the collection of seven medals in the collector's box.
