Guardians of czech mountains
Krakonoš - the ruler of the Krkonoše Mountains - is the second good spirit to appear on the Czech Mint's silver medal from the Guardians of the Czech Mountains series.
Hundreds of years ago, people trembled at the mention of Krakonoš. They considered him a devil or a demon who would bring them no good. We can understand these feelings, because the Krkonoše Mountains can be terrifying - just empathise with the fear of a tired traveller standing in front of a huge mountain, or a lonely woodcutter who has lost his way in a snowstorm... But a good person who respects the mountains does not have to fear Krakonoš - even though he can be strange, volatile and proud, he is above all generous and kind. The proof is in the many tales of the burly bearded mountain man, who is a righteous defender of the poor and wronged and a sworn enemy of the greedy people and the scoundrels.
Academic sculptor Majka Wichnerová has given the series an almost fairy-tale atmosphere. The reverse side of the commemorative medal is dominated by Krakonoš in the form of a giant. His majestic beard flows over the mountain peaks, and on the brim of his hat sits his faithful jay, who brings news from all corners of the Krkonoše Mountains. The composition of the reverse side is completed by characteristic representatives of the local flora. Another view of the Krkonoše nature is offered by the obverse side of the medal, which is dominated by the Pančavský waterfall - the highest waterfall in the Czech Republic. The inscription on the obverse side bears STRÁŽCI ČESKÝCH HOROVÉ - KRAKONOŠ - KRKONOŠE.
The collector's series features a total of six mountain spirits from all over the country.
