Guardians of czech mountains
Praděd - the ruler of the Jeseníky Mountains - is the fourth good spirit to appear on the Czech Mint's silver medal from the Guardians of Czech Mountains series.
Metals have been mined and processed in the Jeseníky Mountains since the time of the ancient Celts. The local mountaineers needed a protector and a powerful spirit was born. No one knows exactly where this spirit came from, but it is said that it was a miner who remained in the world of the living after death to keep a protective hand over his descendants. They then gratefully called their ancestor Praděd... The ruler of the Jeseníky Mountains appears as a huge old man with a long white beard, a miner's blouse and a miner´s lamp. He appreciates human kindness and helps the poor, but punishes anyone who hurts the innocent people. When Praděd is angry, the highest peak of the Jeseníky Mountains, which bears his name, is glittering. Legend says that another world lies beneath the majestic peak. A greedy sheep herder who almost did not make it out of Praděd's underground palace alive...
Academic sculptor Majka Wichnerová has given the series an almost fairytale atmosphere. The obverse side of the commemorative medal presents a view of the nature of the Jeseníky Mountains with the transmitter and the tower in the background. The composition is supplemented with the inscription STRÁŽCI ČESKÝCH HOR - PRADĚD - JESENÍKY. The reverse side is dominated by the spirit of Praděd in the form of a bearded miner with a hammer and a miner´s lamp.
The collector's series will present a total of six mountain spirits from all over the country.
