Product description

The silver medal, which extends the free gift series of the Czech Mint with Christmas motifs, is dedicated to the Midnight Mass.

Believers commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ on 25 December, but since the Christian-Jewish tradition says that the day begins with the evening, the celebrations begin in advance on Christmas Eve. This historic custom is called a vigil, but most of us know it as the Midnight Mass. Nighttime church attendance is one of the favorite Christmas customs in many families, and not just Christian ones. Even people who don't believe in God stay up for the festive atmosphere full of candles, nativity scenes and the smell of incense. It is not necessary to know the rules of how to behave during a church service - just listen quietly to the sermon, the singing of carols or the melody of Ryba's Czech Christmas Mass. At the end, the priest gives a blessing to everyone present and the ceremony ends... In the Czech Republic, midnight masses are held in the smallest village churches and in grand sanctuaries such as St Vitus' Cathedral. If you visit Prague Cathedral at midnight, legend has it that St. Wenceslas himself, accompanied by St. Vojtěch, may join you…

On the obverse side of the medal, which is the work of medal maker Ludmila Kracíková, DiS., you will find a family rushing to the midnight mass. A comet flies in the sky above the snow-covered church. You will also find a hairpin on the reverse side of the medal, where a children's choir singing a carol is incorporated into it.

A gift wrapping is an integral part of the issue, where a dedication can be inscribed.
