Silver half-a-kilo medal of the series Statutory Czech Towns – Plzeň standard Silv

In 2011, Czech Mint launched mintage of a new series of silver investment medals with motifs of statutory towns in the Czech Republic. Statutory towns can be described as towns headed by a mayor having wider powers than standard towns. They include the capital of Prague, all regional towns and eleven other cities. Each year, the mint will issue two medals of the series and, as there are 24 statutory towns, the medals also represent an attractive longterm collector opportunity next to being a good investment. A complete set of medals will certainly multiply the value of separate pieces.

The motif of the first medal of the series is dedicated to the town of Plzeň.

Each medal will be struck in two weights: 1,000 g and 500 g.

On the obverse side of the first medal we can see a panoramic view of Plzeň’s historical centre in a sector of a circle, touched by embossed St. Bartholomew’s Cathedral.

The motif is complemented with designation of weight and an assay mark, the name of town “Plzeň” is placed on the right.

On the reverse side all medals of the series have a common motif. In the background there is a raster grid with names of all statutory towns and a projecting map of the Czech Republic with plotted rivers, mountain ranges and all the 24 towns. The inscription at the lower rim of the reverse side reads “Statutární města České republiky” (Statutory Towns of the Czech Republic).
