Silver groschen Jan Saudek 90th birthday proof
Product description
The Czech Mint pays tribute to Jan Saudek by issuance of another silver medal. The commemorative mintage is issued on the occasion of the photographer's 90th birthday.
When he was fifteen, he got his first camera. At seventeen, he took his first decent photograph of his brother lying on a dirt road. An incredible seventy-three years have passed since then, and Jan Saudek is still creating. He has become famous around the world for his inimitable images between painting and photography, which are a controversial and provocative celebration of humanity. He modeled primarily on women - the tender and the brazen, the shameless and the perverse - but he also devoted himself to capturing parenthood and often photographed himself. He became both an admired and reviled master of the classical photographic craft, an optimistic and melancholic pioneer of staged photography who still creates his iconic images today using the traditional method of artisanal film development in a darkroom. "All my life I looked forward to not having to work when I got older. For now I work ten hours a day, sometimes more, sometimes less. I work more than when I was younger... There are guys who sit on a bench and smoke at 60, but you can't give up," reveals the famous artist, who is celebrating his incredible 90th birthday.
The author of the jubilee medal is the medal maker MgA. Petra Čánská. While the obverse side presents a contemporary portrait of Jan Saudek, the reverse side features his hands clutching a Pentacon camera. In the relief you will also find the photographer's name, signature and age.
The silver mintage, set in a special numbered packaging is issued in an edition of 1935, thus referring to the year of Jan Saudek's birth.
