The coins for happiness have been given to newborn babies by our ancestors and the Czech Mint has been following this tradition for years by coining of silver tolars and gold ducats. The offer of birthday gifts for babies is supplemented with a silver coin from the unique Crystal Coin collection in 2019.

The celebration of birth of child has different forms in different countries. The Americans celebrate three weeks before birth, which is associated with a wealth of useful gifts. In Germany, on the contrary, they believe that giving gifts or organizing celebrations before the baby is born brings bad luck. The Russians, like the Americans, enjoy practical things and therefore give the babies the complete equipment. Mexicans usually give cigars to baby boys and chocolate to baby girls. Special sweets are also popular in the Netherlands, Belgium or Iran. And what about Czechs? They began to renew the tradition of giving a precious metal in the cradle. But most mothers, regardless of nationality, definitely agree that celebrations is the last thing they want to do before giving birth or after returning from the hospital. On the contrary, the fathers of any culture must not miss a celebration ...

The reverse side of the commemorative coin presents a combination of embossed relief, cut Czech crystal and traditional symbolism. The newborn babies' legs are tiny, fragile and cute - growing fast, reminding of how little a baby was when brought home by his or her parents. Gifted medal maker Irena Hradecka, DiS., complemented the cute legs by other children motifs along with a bilingual inscription NEWBORN BABY – K NAROZENÍ DÍTĚTE. Since the coins of the Czech Mint are based on the license of a foreign issuer, which is the island of Niue, their obverse side carries its necessary attributes, which are the nominal value of 2 DOLLARS (NZD), the year of the issue 2019, the name Elizabeth II. and the portrait of the Queen surrounded by a number of other foot prints.

The coin was issued in a limited amount of 600 pieces and represents an original, but traditional gift.
