Universal Gods

The Czech Mint pays tribute to the fifth ancient god - the Egyptian Re – by issuance of the silver coin.

The name of the god
Re can be simply translated as the Sun. For the ancient Egyptians, God with a falcon head was the personification of a life-giving star, and therefore the greatest known force in the world, which ensures a successful harvest. Re was omnipresent and omniscient. He was a creator who controlled the passage of days, months, and seasons. While he travelled with the boat called manchet during the day and provided light and warmth to the whole world, at night he traveled with the boat mesketet - illuminating the underworld, judging the guilty people, provided them with absolution, and fighted various demons. The pharaohs considered themselves his sons and longed to be able to sail the heavenly ocean with him after death, even if it was only in the role of a rower or scribe. The importance of the Sun for the Egyptians is evidenced by the fact that they had several sun gods - they also worshiped Amon, Atuma or Hora, with whom Re was then merged into one being.

The medal maker
Mária Filová, DiS became the author of the reverse side of the coin. The relief, executed in the characteristic artistic style of the ancient Egyptians, who did not know the perspective, depicts a god with a human body and a falcon head standing in his boat. In one hand he holds a scepter - a symbol of power - and in the other ankh - a symbol of life. Above his head, there is the sun disk wrapped with a snake. In the left part of the reverse side there are hieroglyphs symbolizing the god Re, in the right part there is Horus' eye, which is an iconic symbol of health and strength. You will also find characteristic Egyptian iconography on the obverse side of the coin, where it is accompanied by ornaments of Greek, Nordic, Slavic and Mesoamerican origin - the obverse side is common to the entire cycle of divine coins. As the coins of the Czech Mint are issued with a license of a foreign issuer, the island of Niue, the obverse side also bears its necessary elements - a nominal value of 10 DOLLARS (NZD), the name and portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. and the year of issue 2020.

The Universal Gods are immortalized on large coins - each weighing
five troy ounces.
