The seventh episode of Star Wars, subtitled The Force Awakens, kicked off a new chapter in the adored film saga. Its characters, including Princess Leia and Han Solo, appear on special coins in the form of banknotes made of silver.

Han Solo and Princess Leia became the greatest heroes of the Galactic Civil War. Their courageous actions led to the fall of the Empire, which ushered in an unprecedented era of freedom and prosperity, but they did not live to see happiness for themselves. Their son, Ben, who inherited his mother's connection to the Force, succumbed to the Dark Side and sided with the totalitarian First Order, intent on controlling the galaxy. Each parent then dealt with the family tragedy in their own way - while Leia took up the fight against the First Order, Han returned to his profession as a smuggler...

On the reverse side of the "banknote", which was created by the New Zealand Mint, you will find two double portraits of Han and Leia - the first is coloured and the second is in the form of an engraving. The insignia of the Resistance of the New Republic also appears in relief. The obverse side bears the necessary attributes of the issuer, which is the island of Niue - i.e. the name and portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the nominal value of ONE DOLLAR (NZD) and the year of issue 2019.
