Nikola Tesla

The third silver coin from a four-part miniseries dedicated to the brilliant inventor Nikola Tesla commemorates his achievements in the field of wireless energy and information transmission.

In the famous "war of currents", there were two different concepts - Thomas Edison's direct current and Nikola Tesla's alternating current against each other. Direct current faced limitations - it failed to transmit over longer distances and turned cities into a tangle of wires. Each household had to be connected by its own wire directly to the power station. Not surprisingly,  the more efficient alternating current eventually became the world standard. The next step in Tesla's electrical revolution was wireless power transmission, which the inventor successfully tested. People were amazed by the light bulbs that lit up in their hands without being connected to the electric power. Tesla proved that with the help of electrical resonance, energy could be produced, transmitted with minimal loss over a distance of tens of kilometres, and finally consumed completely without wires. Unfortunately, the world was not ready for such a miracle - affordable and cheap electricity was at odds with the plans of the industrial magnates. Tesla´s discovery was forgotten, and it has not been replicated to this day. Apart from electricity, Tesla was also involved in wireless information transmission. Any schoolchild will tell you that Guglielmo Marconi invented the radio, but Tesla patented the same invention a few years earlier. He had sued for many years with the Italian, who became fabulously rich and won a Nobel Prize instead of him. Justice was served only six months after Tesla's death, when the US Supreme Court declared Marconi's patents invalid and awarded the authorship of the radio to the brilliant Serbian…

Medal maker Asamat Baltaev, DiS., dedicated the reverse side of the coin to a portrait of Nikola Tesla looking down on the Wardenclyffe Tower, which he designed to transmit information and energy wirelessly. The composition is supplemented with electric discharges and the English inscription WIRELESS COMMUNICATION. Lightning bolts can also be found on the obverse side of the coin, which is common to the entire miniseries. As the licence to issue the Czech Mint commemorative coins is granted by the Pacific island of Niue, the obverse side bears its necessary attributes - the national emblem, the nominal value of 1 DOLLAR (NZD) and the year of issue 2023.

You can store the four coins dedicated to the life and work of Nikola Tesla in a special collector's box that you can also find in the offer of the Czech Mint.
