Czech and Czechoslovak Hockey Legends
Jaroslav Pouzar has shone on the ice at home and in America during his career. Therefore the Czech Mint dedicated him another silver coin from the collector's cycle "The Legends of Czechoslovak Hockey".
Jaroslav Pouzar became ice hockey world champion in 1976 and 1977. Therefore he was noticed by an overseas NHL. However, beginnings in a foreign country were difficult for him, and he hardly adapted in the team. His age was an obstacle in addition to the language barrier. He was 30 years old, he had his own style, and it was not easy to learn overseas. Wayne Gretzky himself remembers that it took fifty games to get co-ordinated. However, Pouzar then became his faithful and reliable partner in attack. The legendary Canadian appreciated his physical proportions and the honest work as a left wing. Pouzar was the first Czech in history to enjoy the Stanley Cup played for the Oilers already in the second season. The Edmonton team had won this prestigious trophy for the first time, but not for the last time. The "Oilers" won three of the five cups with Pouzar's contribution.
The reverse side of the coin was made by the medal maker Luboš Charvat. It presents the period portrait of Jaroslav Pouzar, the jersey number 23 and the Stanley Cup depiction. In addition to the hockey player's name, there is an inscription: WORLD MASTER 1976 1977, STANLEY CUP WINNER 1984 1985 1987 AND MEMBER OF CZECH HOCKEY HALL OF FAME. The coins of the Czech Mint are issued with a foreign license of the state of Samoa, and their obverse side therefore bears the following necessary attributes - the portrait and the name of the emperor Elizabeth II, the national emblem, the nominal value of 2 DOLLARS (WST) and the year of issue 2019.
Remember that you can store a hockey coin in a special collector's etui in the form of a puck.
