Czech and Czechoslovak Hockey Legends

When fans are to nominate a player who contributed to the Czech Olympic Triumph in Nagano, they usually agree - the unbeatable goalkeeper Dominik Hašek with his superhuman actions threatened even the best world forwards, and therefore the Czech Mint dedicated the silver coin from Czechoslovak Ice hockey Legends cycle to him.

The list of Dominik Hašek's successes is not over. He won
two Stanley Cups, he became the first Czech hockey player of the NHL Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto five years ago, but he is most proud of the medal from the "Century Tournament" in Nagano, Japan in 1998. The Czechs beat the world's best players and got the first ever gold from the Winter Olympics for the independent Czech Republic. “When it's something for the first time, it's unrepeatable. The gold is immortal because all the NHL stars played for the first time in Nagano,” remembers the legendary goalkeeper. His memories of the Olympic triumph are still alive after two decades: “ It may sound funny today, but we NHL guys had the mobile phone, so we could communicate with the Czech Republic during the tournament. We knew somethingwas happening at home. There were no emails, just fax. And the stacks of faxes suspected that people at home were living Nagano. But faxes could not prepare us for what we saw in Prague with our own eyes. It was unreal and absolutely unforgettable. I think they will ask us about it for the next twenty years… ”

The reverse side of the coin from the medal studio of
Vojtěch Dostál, DiS. presents the goalkeeper's portrait. (It is interesting that the commemorative medals of the Czech Mint, which were published on the occasion of Hašek's introduction to HHOF, were created by the medal maker's father Jiří Dostál.) The portrait is surrounded by an inscription: DOMINIK HAŠEK, NAGANO 1998, STANLEY CUP WINNER 2002, 2008, MEMBER OF THE HALL OF FAME OF CZECHOSLOVAK ICE HOCKEY, MEMBER OF THE HALL OF FAME OF IIHF. The composition of the reverse side was closed by the number of the "Dominator" jersey 39. Coins of the Czech Mint are issued with the license of the state Samoa, and their obverse side bears the necessary elements of this foreign issuer – the portrait and the name of the ruler Elizabeth II, the national emblem, the year of the issue 2019 and the nominal value of 2 DOLLARS (WST).

Do not forget that you can store a hockey coin in a special
collector´s etui in the form of a puck.
