Journey Around the World
The series of silver coins of the Czech Mint called Journey Around the World is a guide to the most visited metropolises of the planet. The journey begins at home - in the Czech Republic, the capital of which is Prague.
Prague has been the political, cultural and economic centre of Central Europe for eleven centuries. It was founded in the Romanesque era and flourished in the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque periods. It became the capital of a Bohemian principality, a kingdom and the seat of the Holy Roman Emperors and played a key role in the Protestant Reformation, the Thirty Years' War and the turbulent events of the 20th century. Walking through Prague from one end to the other, one does not leave the homogeneous buildings, and so it does not occur to him that he has actually passed through the territory of four medieval towns. The Old Town, New Town, Lesser Town and Hradčany were not just names for individual parts of Prague - they were separate towns that were only united into one entity in 1784. It is no wonder that the centuries-old mother of cities, which breathes history, is one of the most visited metropolises in Europe. Every year it attracts millions of tourists who seek not only historical monuments, but also rich culture, relaxed entertainment, romantic corners, delicious cuisine and great beer…
The coin which is the work of medal maker Asamat Baltaev, DiS. boasts an elaborated relief which is highlighted by an antique finish. The reverse side is dominated by a collage of Prague's monuments. You will find the Charles Bridge with the Old Town Bridge Tower and the statue of St. John the Baptist, St. Nicholas Church, St. Vitus Cathedral and the astronomical dial of the Old Town Clock, which is gilded. The obverse side, which is common to the entire cycle of travel coins, then presents the flags and landmarks of world capitals such as Prague, London, Hong Kong, Sydney, Rio de Janeiro and New York. As the coins of the Czech Mint are issued with the foreign licence of the island of Niue, their obverse sides also bear its national emblem, the nominal value of 5 DOLLARS (NZD) and the year of issue 2024.
The weight of the coins from the Journey Around the World series is three troy ounces - for the first time in the history of the Czech Mint. A picture brochure is included in the package.
