Silver coin Human body - Tonsil proof
Human body
The seventh silver coin from the Czech Mint's series entitled Human Body is dedicated to the lymphatic system – specifically the tonsils.
The lymphatic system is part of the immune system, which is responsible for protecting the body from harmful external influences. It distributes lymph – a fluid containing white blood cells – throughout the body and is able to remove various waste products, toxins, dead cells, and pathogens. The tonsils are the first filter to capture bacteria and viruses that enter the human body through inhalation or ingestion. The tonsils are located in the oral cavity, and when they come under attack, the immune system sends white blood cells to fight the infection. This battle then manifests itself in the form of swelling and inflammation of the tonsils. We produce up to 100 billion white blood cells a day to defend ourselves.
The reverse side of the coin, designed by medallist Jan Štekla, DiS., features a colored cross-section of a human head with the tonsils highlighted. The composition is completed by the Latin inscription TONSILLAE PALATINAE (tonsils). On the obverse side, which is common to the entire series, you will find a colored double helix of DNA. Since the coins of the Czech Mint are issued with the foreign license of the island of Niue, they also bear its national emblem, the nominal value of 1 DOLLAR (NZD), and the year of issue 2026 on the obverse side.
All twelve anatomical coins from the Human Body series can be stored in a lavish collector's book, which is also in the portfolio of the Czech Mint.
