Human body

The eighth silver coin from the Czech Mint’s series titled The Human Body is dedicated to the nervous system specifically, the brain.

The nervous system collects, transmits, processes, and stores information, thereby ensuring a rapid, coordinated response of the body to stimuli. It consists of a network of nerve cells—the brain, spinal cord, and nerve fibers—which communicate with one another via electrical signals. Nerve impulses can reach speeds of up to 120 meters per second. The brain, which is the central organ of the human nervous system, manages and controls all bodily functions—movement, digestion, heart activity, as well as thinking, memory, and emotions. It contains up to 100 billion nerve cells and consumes one-fifth of all the energy the human body requires to function.

The reverse side of the coin, designed by medallist Jan Štekla, DiS., features a colored human brain, through which a cut reveals its internal structure. The composition is completed by the Latin inscription CEREBRUM (brain). On the obverse side, which is common to the entire series, you will find a colored double helix of DNA. Since the Czech Mint’s coins are issued with a foreign license from the island of Niue, the obverse side also bears its national coat of arms, the nominal value of 1 DOLLAR (NZD), and the year of issue 2026.

You can store all twelve anatomical coins from the Human Body series in an elaborate collector’s album, which is also offered by the Czech Mint.
