Ferdy the Ant
The Czech Mint issued the second silver coin from a five-part collector´s miniseries on the occasion of the 85th birthday of Ferdinand the Ant and dedicated the coin to his friend, who is none other than the beetle Pytlík.
The artist is honoured if his work raises public awareness and finds its way into the everyday vocabulary. This is the case of the beetle Pytlik. When the writer Ondřej Sekora created the figure, he certainly did not think it would become the archetype of the bragger that was everywhere and knew everything. The beetle appeared for the first time in Ferdinand the Ant's book of 1936. People who do not hesitate to talk about things but have at best superficial knowledge. However, we must not be unjust to Pytlík. On the contrary it does not have a bad character! Despite the fact he is a clumsy theoretician, he is characterized by fervour, enthusiasm and unbridled creativity. In fairy tales, however, the Pytlik is gradually getting closer to his friend Ferdy, and the saying "all sorts of work" becomes more and more popular.
The reverse side of the coin made by the medal maker Irena Hradecká, DiS., presents the beetle on the meadow. The obverse side bears the name and the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the nominal value of 1 DOLLAR (NZD), together with the year of the issue 2019, which are the attributes of the island of Niue that provides the Czech Mint with a license to coin its own commemorative coins.
Do not miss that Ferdy's coin includes a merry collector´s album, where you can also save the beetle Pytlik.
