Czech and Czechoslovak Hockey Legends
The Czech Mint dedicated the eleventh silver coin from series entitled “Czechoslovak Hockey Legends“ to another “golden boy” of Nagano - Jaromír Jágr.
Jaromír Jágr's career began in 1990 when he was eighteen. It was after the World Cup in Switzerland, where he won the bronze medal with the national team, when the forward from Kladno was noticed by the scouts from overseas NHL, which "Džgr" dominated soon. He has worked for a number of renowned clubs, he won the Stanley Cup twice and became the best European player right after Wayne Gretzky in this competition in the history of the Canadian NHL scoring. However, the famous Canadian, unlike Jaromír Jágr, has never won the World Championship nor Olympic gold. However, the Czech hockey players, who were initially considered outsiders, finally won the precious metal in Nagano in Japan. Although Jágr, after the "tournament of the century", blamed himself for poor contribution to success, he was too strict to himself - for example, in the quarterfinals against the USA... He is currently the only hockey player from the golden team, who is still playing. "Someone must be the last," says a member of the prestigious Triple Gold Club, who dedicates all his energy to the Knights hockey club in his native Kladno today…
Medal maker MgA. Martin Dašek placed a portrait of Jaromír Jágr with a characteristic hairstyle on the reverse side of the coin and supplemented it with the name of the forward, his jersey number 68, together with the inscription NAGANO 1998 – WORLD CHAMPION 2005 2010 - STANLEY CUP WINNER 1991 1992 – MEMBER OF THE CZECH HOCKEY HALL OF FAME. Coins of the Czech Mint are issued with the license of Samoa, and therefore their obverse sides bear the necessary attributes of this foreign issuer – the national emblem, the name and the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the year of the issue 2020 and the nominal value of 2 DOLLARS (WST).
Do not miss the stylish collector´s etui in the form of a puck. It can hold the entire series of fourteen hockey coins.
