Cat Breeds

The fourth silver coin of the Czech Mint from the series Cat Breeds is dedicated to the Persian cat.

Persian cats suppose to come from the Middle East, from where they came to Europe in the 17th century. If this is true, they have little in common with their ancestors today, therefore, England is considered their home. They have two distinctive features. The first is a strikingly shortened facial skull with a nose that is almost flush with the eyes. The second is the flowing silky coat that grows to an extraordinary length and requires special care. The thick fur hides a stocky body with short limbs. Persians are ideal pets due to their gentle and calm nature. They are affectionate but phlegmatic. They prefer long hours of sleep before outdoor activity.

The reverse side of the coin, which is the work of the medal maker David Kružliak, bears two depictions of the Persian cat. The first one is coloured, thus giving the colourful coat a prominent appearance. The second, which is embossed, presents a cat playing. The composition is supplemented with the Czech-English inscription PERSKÁ KOČKA – PERSIAN CAT. On the obverse side, which is common to the whole series, there is a silhouette of a cat and paw prints. As the coins of the Czech Mint are issued with the foreign licence of the island of Niue, the obverse side bears its national emblem, the nominal value of 1 DOLLAR (NZD) and the year of issue 2024.

You can save all twelve coins from the Cat Breeds series in a collector's book that you can also find in the offer of the Czech Mint.
