Beauties of Slovakia
A series of commemorative coins minted from half a gram of pure gold, which are set in replicas of period postcards, belongs to the favorite coins of the Czech Mint. Since the Czech Mint has been opened also in Slovakia, we have prepared several Slovak themes. Bratislava Castle is first of them.
The Slovak capital had many names in various languages in the past. For example, it was called Pozsony in Hungarian language. The city situated on the Danube was the coronation city of the Hungarian kings and it is currently the youngest capital of Europe. A historically significant and interesting tourist metropolis could not miss the new phenomenon of postcard creation that appeared at the end of the 19th century. The popular and valuable lithography, which was published by the Munich publisher Carl Otto Hayd in 1900, was sent with a legible franking to Vienna in 1904. The decorative postcard presents the Hungarian inscription ÜDVÖZLET POZSONYBÓL (greetings from Bratislava) and captures important buildings and monuments of the city - for example the building of the Bratislava City Theater, the equestrian monument of Maria Theresa and the panorama of Bratislava Castle that was favored by the Habsburg Empress.
The Bratislava Castle from the Danube´s view is also presented on the reverse side of the gold coin that was processed by the young medal maker Veronika Adamcová. The composition of the reverse is supplemented with a Slovak-English inscription BRATISLAVSKÝ HRAD - BRATISLAVA CASTLE. Since the Czech Mint coins are issued with the license of a foreign issuer, the island of Niue, the obverse side bears its necessary attributes, which means the nominal value of 5 DOLLARS (NZD), the name and the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. and the year of the issue 2020.
This coin delights both numismatists and philocartists. It is an original and affordable collectible piece and an attractive regional gift.
