Product description

In the year in which we commemorate the 100th anniversary of Jan Janský's death, a silver coin of the Czech National Bank with a nominal value of 200 CZK was minted in quality standard.

Jan Janský
was a leading psychiatrist and neurologist, who set out to study the blood in the hope of discovering the secret of psychological disorders. He tested the blood of 3,000 people, but his study failed to link it to a diseased soul. However, he came to the groundbreaking discovery of four blood types. Unfortunately, he did not realize the significance of his discovery, so he did not put it into practice. At the beginning of the 20th century, approximately three-quarters of patients died after receiving a transfusion, and in the coming First World War, Jansky's discovery could have saved a huge number of lives. Fortunately, other doctors followed his footsteps...

In the art competition of the Czech National Bank, the joint design of two medal makers -
Asamat Baltaev, DiS., and Jiří Hanuš, DiS. The expert committee appreciated in particular "the contemporary marking of the blood groups (0, A, B and AB) on the obverse side and the successful composition of the portrait and the inscription in the form of the Roman numeral IV on the reverse side".

All Czech coins - both commemorative and circulation - are minted by
the Czech Mint in Jablonec nad Nisou.
