Product description
The silver coin of the Czech National Bank with a nominal value of 200 CZK, which is minted in quality standard, is issued on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Dana and Emil Zátopek.
A legendary endurance runner, multiple record holder, three-time European champion and holder of four gold and one silver Olympic medal... A phenomenal javelin thrower, two-time European champion and holder of gold and silver Olympic medals... Emil and Dana Zátopek, who achieved remarkable success in their athletic disciplines, were destined for each other. The husband and wife, remembered by the whole sporting world, were born in the same year and on the same day. They also won Olympic gold medals on the same day - while Emil won the five-kilometre race at the Helsinki Olympics, Dana won the javelin throw beyond the fifty-metre mark. Two of Czechoslovakia's most famous athletes spent fifty-two years in a loving relationship and lived in perfect symbiosis throughout that time. They were each other's support and inspiration, they loved to tease each other and they complemented each other wonderfully…
The design made by medal maker Vojtěch Dostál, DiS. won the art competition of the Czech National Bank. The expert jury particularly appreciated "the very interesting composition of athletic motifs and the national flag placed on the obverse side and the excellent portraits of Dana and Emil Zátopek in motion on the reverse side".
All Czech coins - both commemorative and circulation - are minted by the Czech Mint in Jablonec nad Nisou.
