Product description

The second silver coin of the Czech National Bank with a nominal value of 200 CZK minted in quality standard, which is published in 2021, is dedicated to František Kupka.

In his time,
František Kupka as a pioneer, did not receive much recognition or understanding. Today, however, his contributions to world art are unquestionable. The paintings of artistic genius, whose strong relationship to spirituality, mysticism and music laid the foundations of abstract painting, belong to the most valuable and popular Czech works. It was in 2021, when 150 years had passed since Kupka's birth, that his abstract painting entitled "Blasting II" was auctioned for an incredible 231 million crowns, which made it the most expensive Czech work of all time.

The design by sculptor
Adam Alva Fejfar won the art competition of the Czech National Bank. The expert committee particularly appreciated "the imaginative interconnection of the obverse and reverse sides of the coin by composing partial motifs from the works of František Kupka" and the treatment of the painter's portrait on the reverse side.

The Czech Mint in Jablonec nad Nisou
is the exclusive producer of Czech coins - both commemorative and circulation.
