Product description
In 2020, 150 years have passed since the birth of Adolf Loose. The legend of world architecture is commemorated by issuance of the silver coin of the Czech National Bank with a nominal value of 200 CZK stamped in quality standard.
Adolf Loos, born in Brno, was one of the loudest fighters for simplicity and functionality in civil engineering. Although he did not consider himself an architect, he became one of the greatest representatives of European architecture of the 20th century. He rebelled against established conventions and liked to provoke conservative society. He refused decoration and ornaments - everything had to be simple and purposeful, nothing could prevent the full use of the functions of the work. No wonder Loos's austere department store, the tailor's company Goldman & Salatsch, located directly opposite the luxurious imperial residence of the Hofburg, outraged the whole of Vienna. Although the architect faced sharp criticism and his works were called derisive names, he had a number of supporters and wealthy clients. After the disintegration of Austria-Hungary, he turned more and more often to his native Czech land, where modern architecture flourished successfully. Loos's interwar work focused on luxurious interiors and individual house projects, in which he applied his unique principle of spatial structuring of the floor plan - the so-called raumplan, which is based on the smooth continuity and interconnection of individual parts of the house. Müller's villa became the embodiment of this idea.
The medal maker Asamat Baltaev, DiS., who won the CNB art competition, dedicated the obverse side of the coin to the Prague villa. The reverse side then presents the architect's portrait, supplemented with his annual dates.
