Product description
The silver coin featuring the legendary Japanese samurai Miyamoto Musashi is a unique work of art and a collector's rarity.
Japanese samurai were elite warriors. They were unmatched on the battlefield, but their minds were as sharp as their swords. The most famous of them was born at the end of the 16th century. His name was Miyamoto Musashi, but he also went down in history as kensei – the saint of the sword. He lived in a time of social upheaval, political intrigue, and continuous warfare that lasted more than a hundred years. He killed his first man when he was only thirteen, and from then on, he was never defeated. He fought in famous battles, won more than sixty duels, and became a pioneer of fighting with two swords. When he reached the highest level of mastery, he put away his steel weapons and replaced them with wooden ones, which were no less deadly in his hands. However, as a true samurai, he did not live only to fight. He filled his free time with self-improvement and refined pastimes. He became an admired painter, sculptor, calligrapher, Buddhist philosopher, and, at the end of his turbulent life, also a writer. In The Book of Five Rings, he described the art of war—man-to-man combat and broader military strategy, physical aspects, and psychological factors. A week before his death, he wrote a short work entitled Dokkōdō, which is a collection of his own rules for life. Although the legendary samurai no longer walk among us, their ideals and way of life continue to attract more and more people. The greatest swordsman the Land of the Rising Sun has ever produced has played a major role in this...
The reverse side of the coin depicts Miyamoto Musashi ready for battle. While the gilded swords refer to his mastery of swordsmanship, the temple, sakura, and gilded moon symbolize the samurai's prudence and inner peace. The obverse side is dedicated to an inexhaustible array of weapons, revealing that the coin is part of a series dedicated to legendary warriors. As the coin is issued under the license of a foreign issuer, the island of Niue, its obverse also bears the necessary attributes – the national emblem, the nominal value of FIVE DOLLARS (NZD), and the year of issue, 2025. All of this is highlighted in high relief accentuated by patina.
The mintage of the coin by T&S Coin is only 500 pieces.
