Product description
The year 2022 marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of Great Prague and a large commemorative coin is being issued to mark the occasion. The silver coin of the Czech National Bank was minted in standard quality, has a nominal value of 10,000 CZK and weighs one kilogram.
Walking through old Prague from one end to the other, one does not leave the uniform buildings and so it does not even occur to him that he has actually passed through the territory of four medieval towns. The Old Town, New Town, Lesser Town and Hradčany were not just names for individual parts of Prague - they were separate towns that were only united into one entity in 1784. During the 19th century, the settlement of Prague's suburbs developed rapidly. At the beginning of the 20th century, this flowering resulted in another major administrative change, which was to turn the disparate agglomeration into an urban and functional unity. The so-called Great Prague was created in 1922, which newly included 37 nearby villages and settlements - Břevnov, Bubeneč, Dejvice, Karlín, Košíře, Královské Vinohrady, Libeň, Nusle, Smíchov, Vršovice, Vysočany, Žižkov and others. The population of the capital city tripled overnight and its area increased more than eight times. Prague became a world-class metropolis.
The design created by the academic sculptor Zbyněk Fojtů won the art competition of the Czech National Bank. The expert committee appreciated especially the very detailed representation of the city emblems that surround the map of Prague on the reverse side and the beautiful design of the historical emblem of the capital city that dominates the obverse side of the coin.
All Czech coins - commemorative and circulation - are minted by the Czech Mint in Jablonec nad Nisou.
