Product description

The year 2022 marks 350 years since Britannia first appeared on British coins. The Royal Mint's modern investment coin, which features the goddess, has been given a special design to commemorate the occasion. You can admire the new relief on the one troy ounce silver coin.

Great Britain is famous for
strong women as Queen Boudica of Iceni, who led a Celtic rebellion against Roman invaders, Queen Elizabeth I of Tudor times, who defeated the unsinkable Spanish Armada, Queen Victoria of Hanover, who made her country an industrial superpower, or the current Queen Elizabeth II of Windsor, who is the longest reigning monarch in the history of the island kingdom. Therefore, it is not surprising that the allegorical personification of Great Britain also takes the form of a woman - the goddess Britannia, who has protected and empowered her nation for two thousand years. Britannia has become a major motif of British investment coins, because it is a powerful symbol known to people all over the planet.

The reverse side of the coin, designed by Italian artist
Sandra Deiana, is dominated by Britannia in the form of the so-called triple goddess. This ancient pagan concept attributes three forms to the divine woman, which are virgin, mother and old woman. The obverse side of the coin then belongs to the attributes of the issuer - i.e. the nominal value of 2 POUNDS (GBP), the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II and the text "ELIZABETH II D G REG F D" (Elizabeth II, by the grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith).

Each coin comes in an elegant box with a certificate of authenticity.
