Product description

The first silver coin from the collector´s cycle dedicated to dinosaurus is dedicated to the Triceratops.

Triceratops
is one of the most famous dinosaurs thanks to its appearance. Its name is a combination of the Greek syllables tri (three), keras (horn) and ops (face), because three horns grew from its head. The two horns on the forehead were over one meter long, the nasal outgrowth was significantly shorter. We know from the fossil record that triceratops was a favorite food of the tyrannosaurus, and its horns most likely helped to keep the dreaded carnivore away from its body. But it certainly did not run at full speed to spear it, because such an impact would kill even a twelve-ton herbivore itself. Another distinctive feature of the horned dinosaur was the wide round collar that covered its occiput. It was made of solid bone, so it could be used against predators, but also to regulate the temperature or as an ornament during courtship rituals. Triceratops had the strongest jaws of all herbivores, which were also finished with a hard beak adapted to grip and pluck. Thanks to that, it was able to bite through any vegetation.

A dramatic scene on the reverse side of the coin presents a
triceratops attacked by two predatory raptors. The horned dinosaurus is depicted in vivid colors, the surrounding prehistoric relief is underlined by patina. The obverse side then bears the portrait and name of Queen Elizabeth II, the year of issue 2020 and the nominal value of TWO DOLLARS (NZD), which means the attributes of the issuer, which is the island of Niue. The coin was processed by the team of the New Zealand Mint.

Each coin includes an elegant
box with a colored cover.
