Product description
The rock band The Who is the fourth legend of British popular music to appear on silver coins from The Royal Mint's collector's series.
British hooligans The Who were wild, rough, rowdy and vivacious - not just on stage, but in their personal lives too. Their career was marked by alcohol, drugs, frustration and arrogance. They destroyed their instruments, the stage and the fans when they performed, and themselves after the show. They also broke down established musical boxes. Their concerts were hard and raw, but their repertoire included melodic and acoustic hits. They also created the very first rock opera. Without realizing it in the heat of creation, these uncouth musical geniuses pioneered hard rock, punk rock, folk rock, art rock, ...
The reverse side of the coin, designed by artist Henry Gray, is dominated by The Who's iconic symbolism - the band's logo, a Rickenbacker guitar and a pierced loudspeaker - combined to form a pinball machine that references the famous rock opera "Tommy". The obverse side of the coin then belongs to the attributes of the issuer - i.e. the nominal value of 1 POUND (GBP), the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the text "ELIZABETH II D G REG F D" (Elizabeth II, by the grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith) and the year of issue 2021.
The coin is set in a special frame that protects it and allows it to be elegantly displayed.
