Nikola Tesla

This commemorative coin minted from five troy ounces of fine silver by the Czech Mint, commemorates Nikola Tesla's relationship with Czechoslovakia.

Nikola Tesla - the visionary who started the real electrification of the world - was of Serbian origin. He was born in 1856 in the village of Smiljan, which was part of the then Austrian Empire and is now in Croatia. He worked in various parts of Europe and eventually settled in the United States. Today, he is multiculturally referred to as an American physicist of Serbo-Croatian origin - this is simply the fate of a genius that everyone likes to appropriate... It is not without interest that part of his life was also connected with our country. In 1880, he studied at Charles University, but completed only one semester. He stayed in Czechoslovakia in 1936 and 1937. President Edvard Beneš awarded him the Order of the White Lion and he received an honorary doctorate from the Czech Technical University. "Please accept my sincere thanks to the Prague community for its kind and valuable message. I have  nice memories of your beautiful city, and the inspiration I received there is now helping me in my work. The great honours you paid me are highly appreciated by me, and I hope I shall prove worthy of them. My admiration for the great people of Czechoslovakia, the torch-bearers of education, cannot be expressed in words. I express my warmest wishes for its continued success," said the inventor. In 1946, three years after his death, he received another tribute in Czechoslovakia - the national company Tesla, famous for its production of electrical products, was named after him...

The medal maker Asamat Baltaev, DiS., dedicated the reverse side of the coin to the portrait of Nikola Tesla in his advanced age. The remaining area of the reverse is filled with lightning bolts into which the badge of the Order of the White Lion is embedded along with the silhouette of Prague Castle. The obverse side is then dedicated to Tesla's tower, from whose dome electric discharges radiate. Since the licence to issue commemorative coins of the Czech Mint is granted by the Pacific island of Niue, the obverse side bears its necessary attributes - the national emblem, the nominal value of 10 DOLLARS (NZD) and the year of issue 2023.

The mintage is only 300 silver coins. Do not miss the four-part collector's miniseries dedicated to the life and work of Nikola Tesla, also by Asamat Baltaev.
