Product description

The set of Slovak euro coins was created in 2021 to the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Alexander Dubček.

Alexander Dubček was one of the most famous Slovak politicians in Czechoslovak history. He became famous as a fighter against the totalitarian regime and became a symbol of freedom, democracy and social solidarity. He was one of the key figures of 1968, a year of political, social and economic change. However, efforts to democratise Czechoslovakia were thwarted by the invasion of the Warsaw Pact troops. Alexander Dubček was immediately dismissed from top political circles and forced to give up public life. Although he lived for the next two decades under the constant surveillance of the State Security Service, he did not give up his ideals. He sent letters of protest to the state authorities and maintained contacts with foreign institutions and human rights activists. He became a key figure in the democratic changes that led to the fall of the communist regime in 1989.

The set includes all valid euro circulation coins issued in 2021 by the National Bank of Slovakia and minted by the Slovak Mint  Mincovňa Kremnica. The nominal values are 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 c and 1 and 2 €, which are supplemented with a commemorative coin with a nominal value of 2 €, dominated by the portrait of Alexander Dubček.

The set is placed in a special blister pack with a cover.
