Product description

The Czech Mint is the official partner of the British Royal Mint The Royal Mint. The both mints have had a joint project which celebrated the 100th anniversary of the founding of the British Royal Air Force in 2018, and they continue cooperating for the second time in 2020. The Czech-British set of two gold coins commemorates the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

The British Air Force
RAF became famous during World War II, when it fought against the German Luftwaffe in its most famous campaign - the Battle of Britain, which became the greatest air battle in history. At that time, the island kingdom was in desperate need of help, therefore, dozens of Czechoslovak pilots who were deprived of their home by the Nazi occupation and who had a score to settle with the Germans also joined the fight. They were integrated into the fighter and bomber units of the RAF and entered British history with extraordinary piloting skills, aggressive combat deployment and bravery to oppose enemy superiority. "If the Czechs and Poles had not helped the Royal Air Force, we would not have won the Battle of Britain," Squadron Leader George Blackwood said, adding that there would be nothing to prevent the German amphibious invasion if they were defeated in the air. The courage of the members of our crews was all the greater because, if they were shot down and captivated, they would not be, unlike other pilots, considered prisoners of war, but - as citizens of the German-controlled Protectorate – high traitors.

The schedule of issuance of set of two coins includes only
300 pieces. The set is stored in a thematic tin case decorated with the British flag.
