Product description
The Czech Mint issued the three gold coins that pay tribute to another religious symbol of our country - St. Agnes of Bohemia - after St. John of Nepomuk and St. Ludmila.
As the youngest daughter of Ottokar I of Bohemia - the first Czech king, whose title was hereditary - St. Agnes of Bohemia became the subject of marriage policy at an early age. The Silesian prince, the Austrian duke and the English king gradually applied for her hand, but the marriage failed in all cases. The last suitor of Agnes then became the Roman emperor, but the young woman, whose father was already dead at the time, rejected this offer and preferred God. King Wenceslas I gave permission to his favorite sister for the decision, which surprised all of Europe. At the same time he gave her a place in Prague, where she established the Church of Saint Francis for the female branch of the Franciscan Order together with the hospital. Here Agnes took care of the poor and sick for the rest of her life. As a conventual sister, she was not allowed to leave the monastery, but still maintained active contacts with the royal family and papal court. She was highly educated and became a prominent figure in political, cultural and social life. She died at the blessed age of 71. Agnes's admirers then spent more than six centuries striving for her canonization that finally took place on November 12, 1989.
The three-part set of coins, which was processed by the medal maker Lenka Nebeská, DiS., presents Agnes as an emancipated princess, an enthusiastic nun and a revered saint, whose miracles many legends tell of. The individual reverse sides of the coins present Agnes's portraits and various attributes - a crown and a Přemyslid eagle; the Convent of Saint Agnes and the Lamb of God; the Czech lion and raised hands, whose fingers form a "victorious V-sign". The last scene refers the fact that the canonization of Agnes of Bohemia took place a few days before the Velvet Revolution. It is like an ancient prophecy was fulfilled, which said that there would be peace and tranquility in Bohemia when Agnes was declared saint… Since the coins of the Czech Mint are licensed by the island of Niue, their obverse sides bear the name and portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the nominal value of 10 DOLLARS (NZD) and the year of issue 2021.
The three coins are stored in a luxurious wooden box.
