Product description
This set of Slovak coins minted in 2025 in exceptional proof quality commemorates the 700th anniversary of the introduction of Hungarian florins.
In the 13th century, gold was a scarce commodity. In Europe, silver was the dominant coinage metal, and gold denominations were only produced on a large scale in Byzantium and the Muslim world. However, in 1252, there was a turning point in European finance – wealthy Florence began minting so-called florins, and these successful gold coins soon became a model for mints in other countries. In 1325, they also inspired Slovak mint masters. At that time, King Charles I Robert of Anjou sat on the Hungarian throne and wanted to consolidate his power and stabilize the economy with the help of extensive reforms. These included, for example, the reorganization of the tax system and mining. As part of the monetary reform, gold florins were introduced in a country where silver denarii had been used until then. Kremnica became an important center for their minting. The local mint, founded in 1328, produced over 400,000 gold coins annually, which became a recognized currency with high quality and stable value. They were not only an economic tool, but above all a symbol of Hungary's economic power...
The set includes all valid euro coins issued in 2025 by the National Bank of Slovakia and minted by the Slovak Mincovňa Kremnica. These are the denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, and 50 cents and 1 and 2 euros, complemented by a thematic silver medal from the workshop of Mgr. Art. Martin Sabol.
The set is stored in plexiglass packaging with a paper cover.
