Product description
Set of four silver coins of the Czech Mint pays tribute to the legendary novel adventure entitled The Three Musketeers.
One for all, all for one! This motto guides the three – actually four – musketeers who came to life in the pages of the immortal adventure written by Alexandre Dumas, Sr. Athos, Porthos, Aramis, and d'Artagnan are skilled in combat and royal entertainment. They love passionately and throw themselves headlong into danger. Courage, honor, and friendship are valued above all else, but betrayal and intrigue stand in their way. The year is 1625. Europe is divided by religious wars, and even sweet France, at the court of Louis XIII, is not at peace. Will these friends for life and death succeed in saving the queen's honor? Will they overcome the traps set by the treacherous cardinal and his fellows? Will d'Artagnan's dream come true and will he become a true musketeer?
The most famous characters from the legendary novel are represented by a set of four commemorative coins:
Athos and Milady de Winter – Athos is the oldest and most experienced of the musketeers. He is noble and generous, but he is tormented by demons, which he drowns in wine. The cause of his suffering is a former love - beautiful and mysterious, but inwardly evil, vile, and capable of any intrigue, Milady de Winter.
Porthos and Cardinal Richelieu – Porthos is a great hedonist, dandy, and braggart. He acts impulsively, but at heart he is a good man. What he lacks in intellect, he makes up for with his enormous strength. Cardinal Richelieu is his polar opposite – he uses his sharp intellect and treacherous schemes to achieve power.
Aramis and the Duke of Buckingham – The mysterious Aramis is thoughtful and pious, but also ambitious, handsome, and popular with women. The powerful English Duke of Buckingham also has a weakness for women, and his love for the French queen could cause an international scandal.
d'Artagnan and Constance Bonacieux – The quick-witted and courageous young Gascon d'Artagnan is the ideal candidate for a royal musketeer. However, his impulsiveness, hot-bloodedness, and love stand in his way. His head is full of the beautiful Constance Bonacieux, who is the queen's devoted maid.
On the reverse sides of the coins, you will find legendary figures rendered in vivid colors in the distinctive style of medal maker Matěj Funka, DiS. The obverse side, which is common to all four coins, features musketeer swords and the French motto UN POUR TOUS – TOUS POUR UN (one for all, all for one). As the license to issue commemorative coins of the Czech Mint is provided by the Pacific island of Niue, the obverse side also bears its essential attributes – the national emblem, the nominal value of 1 DOLLAR (NZD) and the year of issue 2025.
The set of four coins is stored in a metal collector's case. The issue limit is only 300 pieces!
Note: The complete set replaces the originally planned issue of four separate coins from 2024.
