Product description

The free cycle of the Czech Mint, which is dedicated to the famous sanctuaries, has presented the Prague Cathedral of St. Vitus and the Paris Cathedral of Notre-Dame so far. A set of four gold coins pays tribute to St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican.

The Vatican
, the heart of the Christian world, housed the circus of the Roman emperor Nero in the first century AD, when many persecuted Christians were killed. According to legend, St. Peter was among them. The tomb of the apostle, who was crucified upside down because he did not feel worthy to die in the same way as Jesus Christ, soon became a place of pilgrimage, and the Roman emperor Constantine I, famous as a great supporter of Christians, built St. Peter's Basilica above it three centuries later. However, it was not a sanctuary that we know and admire today. It was created between 1505 and 1629 under the leadership of unrivaled artists of the Renaissance and Baroque - from Donato Bramante, who designed the basic plans of the basilica, through Michelangelo Buonarroti, who built a monumental dome, to Gian Lorenzo Bernini, who enriched St. Peter's Square with the colonnade, a number of statues of saints and an Egyptian obelisk from the time of the Roman Empire.

Individual coins were processed by the medal maker
MgA. Jakub Orava, DiS., who devoted them to various aspects of the Vatican Basilica. The first coin commemorates the death of St. Peter, who is burried under the basilica. The second coin presents plans of Michelangelo's dome, which rises to a height of 136.6 meters and offers a breathtaking view of the Vatican Gardens and the city of Rome. The third coin depicts St. Peter's Square that welcomes all believers as open arms. The fourth coin is dedicated to the popes - it presents their insignia (a bundle of crossed keys that symbolize authority in the earthly and heavenly kingdoms) and the burial ground, which is located in the basilica. The obverse side, which is common to the four coins, is dedicated to Peter's throne. As the coins of the Czech Mint are licensed by the foreign issuer, the island of Niue, their obverse sides also bear its necessary attributes - the national emblem, the nominal value of 10 DOLLAR (NZD) and the year of issue 2021.

The set is stored in a luxurious
wooden case.
