Czech UNESCO Heritage

The historical center of Telc became the seventh sight of the UNESCO World Heritage List that appears in the relief of the platinum coin of the Czech Mint.

Telč is located halfway between Prague and Vienna. The core of the town is dominated by royal water fortress from 13th century, an extensive Renaissance chateau with a garden and a park, and above all a square with an undisturbed complex of historic houses. Renaissance and Baroque buildings are dominated by outstanding arcades and facades, built according to a unified plan. The historical center of the Moravian town is closed by ponds and gates, thus retaining its characteristic appearance, which is the work of Zacharias of Hradec, who was the Bohemian nobleman and humanist from the 16th century. He chose Telc as his seat, he was a good farmer and the town experienced an unprecedented boom. He built guilds, ponds, and brought whole Telč to prosperity - not only the square and mansion.

The reverse side of the coin is dominated by the view of the buildings at Zacharias Square in Hradec - from the corner town house with the bay to the left to the mighty town hall on the right. In the right lower part of the reverse side there is the scene complemented by a city coat of arms placed in an arc, which refers to the typical arcade of the Telč houses. The composition is surrounded by a pearl and inscription CITY OF TELC. The commemorative coins of the Czech Mint are issued with the license of a foreign issuer, which is the island of Niue, and their obverse side therefore bears the necessary attributes that are the portrait and the name of Emperor Elizabeth II, the nominal value of 50 DOLLARS (NZD) and the year of the issue 2019. All of this is tastefully set into a collage composed of architectural elements of selected Czech buildings listed on UNESCO.

Platinum coins are accompanied by a special certificate of authenticity. Do not forget that you can store a complete twelve-piece collection in a luxurious collector´s etui.
