Product description

The castle of Litomyšl is the motive of the fifth platinum coin of the Czech Mint from the collector-investment cycle devoted to the UNESCO monuments. The coin was issued in 2018, when 450 years have elapsed since the foundation stone was laid.

The Renaissance chateau, built by the Pernštejn family in the second half of the 16th century, is a rare example of an Italian arcade palace adapted to the conditions of the Alps. It has a unique sgraffito decoration of facades and shields, and retains its exceptional character in spite of a number of transformations in the style of new artistic styles. An integral part of the complex are preserved farm buildings and a garden adapted to the shape of an English park, but also a historical chateau theater with a functional machinery and set of backdrops, one of the last in Europe. The legendary composer Bedřich Smetana was born directly in the chateau - in the family of the castle brewery.

The reverse side of the coin, which is the work of the talented medalist Lenka Nebeská, DiS., presents a view of the castle from the east. There is a rich lettering on the facade, whose detail is depicted on the background of the castle at the top of the coin (the castle covers an incredible 8,000 letters). At the bottom right there is a sample of figural sgraffito decoration and the composition closes an inscription LITOMYŠL ZÁMECKÝ AREÁL. The reverse side of the coin, which is common to the platinum series, is dominated by a collage made up of the architectural elements of various Czech buildings listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Avers also carries the essentials of Niue Island, an issuer that provides the Czech Mint with a foreign license to issue commemorative coins - the profile and name of Emperor Elizabeth II, the year 2018 and the nominal value of 50 DOLLARS (NZD).

An integral part of each coin is a special certificate of authenticity. You can save a complete collection of all 12 platinum mintages in a collector's etui.
