Product description

Extraordinary gold mintage are even more extraordinary when they are decorated with an exceptional personality. The Czech Mint now brings such an issue of unique golde ducat dedicated to the great symbol of our nation – to the patron of the Czech Lands, St. Wenceslas. Wonderful artistic realization of the medal invites you to a safe and beautiful investment!

Duke Wenceslas was the son of Vratislaus I and Drahomíra. However, his education was in charge of his grandmother Saint Ludmila. She taught the pious grandson Christian principles, virtues and supported him in wisdom and prudence. And thanks to her influence Wenceslas was a unique monarch of the country, who strove for security of his nation, defended it against enemies and simultaneously promoted morality and cultural awareness of Bohemia. Under his reign Bohemia was able to equal other European countries. Wenceslas, as a ruler, was known for his strong will, deep faith in God and was also a great advocate of peace. However, due to his virtues he paid the ultimate price. His relatives` weapons, his brother Boleslav and his helpers, took his life. Posthumously, various miracles, that would prove his holiness, were attributed to Wenceslas. Duke's remains are kept in the St. Wenceslas Chapel of the Saint Vitus Cathedral at the Prague Castle.

According to legend, the murder of Duke Wenceslas took place on Monday, 28th September, probably in 929 or 935. In his honor, this date is now associated with the name of Václav/Wenceslas on our calendars. But now you can remind the great ruler and saint any time during the year while looking at your numismatic collections, where the ducat St. Wenceslas of high-proof quality by The Czech Mint will take the place of honor! Academic painter Vladimír Pavlica prepared motifs of both sides for the mintage. A charismatic composition nicely placed in the cross field - St. Wenceslas' eagle, date 28 IX. and the inscription 1 DUKÁT was attributed to the obverse side of the coin. The reverse side of the coin is dominated by an original portrait of the ruler placed on a cutout in the shape of a cross, along with the inscription SV. VÁCLAV. Another masterpiece of artistically crafted gold is ready to gladden the hearts of true collectors!
