Special issue of coins to support the reconstruction of Banská Štiavnica after the fire.

The Czech Mint, which also operates in Slovakia from summer 2020, has prepared a special issue of gold coins to support the reconstruction of the centre of Banská Štiavnica after the fire.

The special issue is based on the gold coin Banská Štiavnica - Plague Column, SK proof. It is a limited issue of 200 coins numbered and marked "Supporters' Issue - Banská Štiavnica 2023." The limited issue, the numbering and the indication that it is an issue of supporters of the town's restoration significantly increases its collectible and, in the future, historical value. The coin has a weight of 0.5g, the purity of gold is 999.9/1000, it has a diameter of 11 mm, it is stored in a capsule, which is inserted into the blister. The price of one coin from the special limited series of supporters is 98 €, the proceeds from the sale of which are intended to support the restoration of buildings in the centre of Banská Štiavnica that were damaged in the fire. The fire broke out on Saturday morning, 18 March 2023. 

On the reverse side of the coin, created by medallist Bc. Zuzana Hubená, depicts the plague column that was erected on the Holy Trinity Square as a thanksgiving to God after the plague epidemic that struck the town in 1710. Banská Štiavnica completes the composition. The obverse side bears the attributes of the island of Niue - the denomination of 5 Dollars (NZD), the name and portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The attributes of the foreign licence ensure international acceptance of the coins of the Czech Mint.

The extraordinary issue, in addition to serving to support the rebuilding of fire-affected buildings, is also a great piece for numismatists and an attractive regional gift due to its uniqueness.
