Commemorative medal for Jizerská 50

18/01/2024

On Wednesday, January 17, a ceremonial minting of commemorative medals for the 57th ČEZ Jizerská 50 took place in the Czech Mint in Jablonec, created by the academic sculptor Jiří Dostál. A commemorative medal made of base metal/Nordic gold with this year's motto "Sport, tradition, art" will be found in your package by every participant of any race. However, the activities of the Czech Mint at Jizerská 50 do not end there, it also prepares gold investment coins for the fastest elite competitors and silver commemorative medals for the lucky ones from the general public.

"For us, this cooperation has a deep meaning. Česká mincovna and Jizerská 50 are two strong regional brands, and it is great that we can together make all the participants of Jizerská 50 happy through our unique medals," said Lenka Klimentová, spokeswoman for Česká mincovna.

The fifth commemorative medal of the Czech Mint for the participants of the legendary Jizerská 50 is again from the author's workshop of the academic sculptor Jiří Dostál: "As is traditional, I created the shape of one side of the medal for the current slogan. I try to accommodate demanding cross-country skiers as well as ordinary hobbyists. Hopefully everyone will like the result," believes Dostál. The slogan this year was the combination of "Sport, tradition, art", because that is one of the greatest values of the Jizerská 50.

In addition to the author of the medals, the marketing director of the Czech Mint Jaroslav Černý, the artist and author of the glass trophies for this year's Jizerská 50 winners Matyáš Chochola and, last but not least, also the communications director of the entire plant, Richard Valoušek, took part in Wednesday's christening ceremony.

However, it does not end with commemorative medals. Since the Czech Mint celebrated 30 years since its establishment last year, at the end of the year they randomly presented 10 competitors registered for the Volkswagen Bedřichovská with 30 medals with this year's motto but made of pure silver. "We will divide the next three medals completely randomly into three starting packages across all races of the 57th ČEZ Jizerské 50," adds Klimentová.

This year as well, the fastest elite competitors will share the financial reward from three bonuses on the route. For this occasion, the Czech Mint produced gold Czech Lion investment coins worth 6,000 euros for its 30th km bonus, as well as another set of gold coins with the Eagle motif of the same value for the first climbing bonus at Knajpa. Together, the competitors will fight for 12,000 euros in gold from the Czech Mint.

The last 50 silver medals from this year's edition will be dedicated to all those who are awarded for their long-term contributions to the Jizerská 50. The medal blister will be numbered and signed by the artist David Mazance, who is the author of the graphic design of the cover. These medals will also receive awards from previous years.
