Jachymov Schlick thaler replica standard

Replica of the Czech thaler from Jachymov mint was designed by the original coin struck from the troy ounce of pure silver. It was the latest type of thaler coins that were minted by the West Bohemian family of Schlicks of Bassano (in German – von Passaun). The coin primarily served for trading purposes as a standardized measure of silver for export, but it also fulfilled representation tasks. The replicated coin type (of 1526) tops the range of Schlick thalers that were minted in Jachymov from 1520 to1528.

The obverse side of the thaler replica features the Czech national emblem (two-tailed lion in a field), the legend in circumscription contains the name of the ruler who was the formal issuer of the coin: LVDOWIC[VS] . PRIM[VS] . DEI . GRA[TIA] . REX . BOEMIE, i.e. Louis First, by the grace of God Czech King  (the divis is the sign of mintmaster Wolf Sturz).

On the obverse side, we can see the Schlick of Bassano family coat-of-arms with three helmets and the figure of St. Joachim in the background. Below, by the eschutcheon there is a year written in two parts “15 – 26“, above by the saint’s hallow letters “S – I“ stand for “Sanctus Iochimus“, Saint Joachim. The legend around the rim consists of abbreviations: AR[MA] . DO[MINORVM] . SLIC[ORVM] . STE[FANI] . E[T] . FRA[TRVM] . CO[MITVM]. DE . BA[SAIA], i.e. Coat-of-arms of the Schlicks, Stephan and brothers, Counts of Bassano“.
