Product description
The release of this commemorative coin by The Royal Mint was planned to mark Prince Philip's 100th birthday. As the Duke of Edinburgh ultimately did not live to see this life anniversary, the coin became a mourning commemoration.
Queen Elizabeth II is the longest reigning monarch in the history of Great Britain, the world's oldest monarch and the longest reigning woman in the recorded history of the planet. She has led her realm for 69 years and throughout that time her husband, Prince Philip, has stood by her side loyally and devotedly. "He is my life support and the only person who treats me like a human being," Queen Elizabeth II was heard to say. When His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh breathed his last in 2021, the Queen was left alone. However, the memory of the man who entertained the world with his plain-spoken observations and bon mots remains...
The reverse side presents a faithful profile portrait of Prince Philip. The artist, Ian Rank-Broadley, met the Prince in person when he sat for him as a model. English copies give the life years 1921-2021 and the full title HRH THE PRINCE PHILIP, DUKE OF EDINBURGH. The obverse side of the coin is dedicated to the attributes of the issuer - i.e. the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the text ELIZABETH II D G REG F D (Elizabeth II, by the Grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith), the year of issue 2021 and the nominal value of 5 POUNDS (GBP).
The commemorative coin stamped in base metals, together with the commemorative stamps, is stored in a special packaging which presents the life of Prince Philip in words and pictures (in English).
