Product description
This commemorative coin from The Royal Mint of Great Britain is a memorial to Queen Elizabeth II and a celebration of King Charles III.
Elizabeth II breathed her last at the blessed age of 96. For most British people, she was a firm symbol of the monarchy and an unchanging constant. After all, she had spent a full 70 years on the throne. Conflicting feelings began to stir in the British public - how to bid a most dignified farewell to their beloved Queen and how to celebrate the accession of a new king, Charles III. Elizabeth's son had long sought a way to reach out to the British public and indeed to his mother, who had taken the reigns at a very young age and so did not have enough time for her offspring. Their family relationship has only improved in recent decades. Elizabeth relied on Charles for much, and he did not disappoint her trust. He was equally committed to not betray the trust of his subjects. He will follow the footsteps of his beloved monarch, but he will bring more emotion, feeling and openness to a state system that has existed for a thousand years...
The reverse side of the commemorative coin, which is dedicated to Elizabeth II, presents two portraits of the Queen, separated by 70 years on the throne. The composition of the reverse side, from the studio of artist John Bergdahl, is supplemented with the Queen's monogram, the Latin inscription ELIZABETH REGINA (Queen Elizabeth) and the life years 1926-2022. The obverse side of the coin is dedicated for the first time in history to King Charles III. His official portrait, which is the work of sculptor Martin Jennings, is surrounded by the text CHARLES III D G REX F D (Charles III, King by the Grace of God, Defender of the Faith), the nominal value of 5 POUNDS (GBP) and the year of issue 2022.
There are currently 27 billion British coins in circulation with the likeness of Elizabeth II on the obverse side. These will remain legal tender, but will be gradually replaced by coins bearing the portrait of Charles III.
