Product description
The gold coin with a nominal value of 100 EUR commemorates the Slovak cultural heritage represented by an iconic musical instrument - fujara.
During the Turkish wars, mercenaries from Western Europe came to Slovakia and played gothic bass blowpipes to save a long time. When the fighting was over, the soldiers withdrew, but the popular musical instrument remained and evolved until it became a unique fujara. Moreover, specific fujara songs were created and based on everyday life - bandit, love, recruit, ceremonial and mourning, about service and dance, but most of all pastoral. The solo wooden instrument kept the lone guards in the mountain huts company, soothed the sheep, which then grazed better, and also served as a signal medium. The way of playing the fujara gained unique elements according to the nature of the Slovak landscape. While in more fertile parts of the country it was more virtuoso, in poorer areas it was rougher for a change. It is no wonder that Fujara, as a special part of the Slovak cultural heritage, was included on the UNESCO list.
Mgr. art Peter Valach became the author of the coin. On the obverse side there is a Slovak folk musician playing the fujara, supplemented with folk ornaments, the Slovak national emblem and the year of issue 2021. The reverse side presents detailed fragments of a fujara with a rich ornamental decor and a decorative inscription NEHMOTNÉ KULTÚRNE DEDIČSTVO – FUJARA (INTANGIBLE CULTURAL HERITAGE – FUJARA).
The coin was minted by the Mincovňa Kremnica Mint and issued by the National Bank of Slovakia.
