Numismatic mintages

The miniature gold recoin of the historic 100 crowns commemorates the coronation of Franz Joseph I of Hungary. It is also a reminder of the remarkable miniature coins whose purpose is still unclear...

German family mint L. Ch. Lauer in Nuremberg, operating between 1729 and 1924, minted miniature Austrian and Hungarian coins of all denominations except the two crowns. This could mean that the miniatures were made before 1912, when the minting of real two crowns began. According to some historians, they were used by gamblers. Others claim that they were a school tool used to teach money management. Thirdly, there is an opinion that the pennies were intended as a talisman for the feather bed for a happy and rich life of babies. Among the miniatures there was a 100crown minted in 1907 at the Kremnica mint on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the coronation of Franz Joseph I as King of Hungary in Budapest. The obverse side was designed by Josef Reisner, the reverse side by Carl Gerl. It was minted with a new technology, where the relief was matt and the background of the texts was almost mirror-gloss. This unique coin is the pride of every numismatic collection with the theme of the crown currency from 1892-1916.

The gold newly minted by the Czech Mint resembles the Nuremberg miniature of the commemorative 100 crowns. "It depicts the coronation itself - specifically the moment of placing the St.Stephen's Crown on the head of Franz Joseph I by Archbishop of Ostrich Ján Šimor in the presence of the Hungarian magnate," explains Martin Furugláš, collector and expert consultant of this issue . On the other side you will find a profile portrait of Franz Joseph I. The coin was processed by the medal maker Mgr. Petr Horák.

The penny is set in a replica of a historical postcard. the Austro-Hungarian potentate surrounded by contemporary coins, including the jubilee 100 crown.
