The second gold coin of the Czech Mint from the adventure cycle called Polar explorers commemorates the conquest of the South Pole.

The expert Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen originally planned an adventure to the North Pole, but after the American Robert Peary claimed to be his conqueror in 1909, he secretly changed his goal. Even members of his expedition did not know that he was heading for Antarctica. Speed was key for Amundsen, so he decided for a short, but uncharted route and choose proven equipment - fur clothes taken from the Inuit and a sledge with a dog sled. Amundsen thoroughly built a warehouse with three tons of food and other supplies along the way, but in the pursuit of victory he still sacrificed most of his fifty-two draught dogs. On December 14, 1911, Amundsen's five-member expedition reached its goal. They left a tent with the Norwegian flag and a message for English polar explorer Robert Falcon Scott at the South Pole. Their 3,000-kilometer journey took 99 days. Amundsen became a hero, but the triumphant victory took on a bitter taste after it became clear that Scott's expedition had also reached the pole, but all its members perished on the way back. "I would gladly give up any fame or money if I could save Scott from his terrible death," Amundsen said at the time. A few years later, a Norwegian polar explorer died in an attempt to save one of his rivals. Since 1956, a year-round American research station named in honor of the two great polar explorers: Amundsen-Scott, has been operating in the immediate vicinity of the south turntable.

The reverse side of the coin, designed by medal maker MgA. Martin Dašek, is equally devoted to both expeditions. Amundsen is symbolized by a dog sled and a tent with the Norwegian flag, Scott is symbolized by a group of skiers and a burial mound. The composition of the reverse side is supplemented with a depiction of a penguin, a map of Antarctica, a directional rose and the inscription DOBÝVÁNÍ JIŽNÍHO PÓLU (THE CONQUEST OF THE SOUTH POLE). The obverse side bears the steering wheel as a symbol of adventures. As the coins of the Czech Mint are licensed by the foreign issuer, the island of Niue, they also present the name and portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the nominal value of 10 DOLLARS (NZD) and the year of issue 2021.

Part of the special packaging in which the coin is stored is a narrative brochure full of period photographs and interesting facts about the conquerors of the South Pole.
