Stories of Our History
Mr. Spejbl celebrates his incredible 100th birthday in 2020. The Czech Mint issued the last quarter-ounce gold medal based on the cycle "Stories of our History" to this occasion.
Mr. Spejbl's popularity at children and adults is ensured especially by mutual teasing with a boy named Hurvínek. The relationship between the two puppets has undergone a number of changes over the centuries. Spejbl, who was born in 1920, started out as an annoying and cunning bourgeois who only teaches everyone, and Hurvínek, who was born in 1926 and who was called Spejblátko, was a metropolitan braggart. Their interaction gradually resulted in a family relationship, and Hurvajz became a naughty son of a sworn bachelor. Rošťák, who makes jokes about his caring father, enriched the games with a proven intergenerational dispute, which brought about a phenomenal success. Josef Skupa then decided to leave the teaching profession and devoted himself to his puppets. Thus, the Spejbl and Hurvínek Theater in Pilsen was established in 1930.
While the obverse side of the medal processed by the medal maker MgA. Martin Dašek is dedicated to the original puppet of Mr. Spejbl and its creator Josef Skupa, the reverse side presents the complete wooden family of the S + H Theater - Mr. Spejbl, Hurvínek, dog Žeryk, Mánička and Mrs. Kateřina.
The schedule of issuance counts only 100 pieces. Each piece is supplemented with a special certificate of origin.
