Product description

The Czech Philharmonic Orchestra is our most important musical body that tells the story of czech cultural identity. The chapter that started to be written just 100 years ago belongs to the third quarter-ounce gold commemorative medal from the cycle of the Czech Mint "Stories of Our History".

When the general test of the orchestra was held on October 28, 1918 at the world premiere of the Josef Suk Symphony of Zrání, it was boiling in the streets of Prague. Extraordinary piece of work was one of the highlights of the Czech symphonic creation of the 20th century. Not well-known conductor Vaclav Talich studied with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra in Prague: "The director of the Czech Philharmonic named Hubicka entered the Smetana Hall when we were in full fire, and shouted: “We have freedom! Everything on the street!" We could not just feel the moment of what Hubicka reported in the fire of work, so I said, "That's nice, but we have to play!" We did not know what was going on in the street, we did not hear because the Smetana Hall was full of Suk´s Maturnity, so we continued to play. It was only when we went out on the street that we felt what had happened! The feeling of annoyance was so strong that I could not imagine how the concert would happen and that I would meet with the whole orchestra." However, the premiere happened on October 30, 1918 at the first concert of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra in the Czechoslovak Republic where not only Zrání succeeded, but also Václav Talich, who introduced himself as an extremely energetic and convincing artistic personality. The orchestra became the cultural envoy of the young republic under his leadership, supporting patriotic ideas and increasing national self-esteem in the heaviest moments.

MgA. Martin Dasek
, who is the author of collector´s series, has dedicated the reverse side of a medal to a portrait of a young conductor who was only thirty-five years old in 1918, surrounded by his name and life dates. The reverse side presents the Smetana Hall of the Municipal House, the outline of Czechoslovakia and the memorable word exchange, which took place between the executive of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra and its conductor.

The set of quarter-ounce medals counts only 100 pieces. Each coin includes a special certificate that tells a story that happened 100 years ago.
