Product description
The Czech Mint has been introducing the most beautiful and interesting lookout towers of our country through the series of gold commemorative medals since 2014. The twentieth mintage and the last one decorated with the Moravian Vartovna are published in 2018.
The lookout tower situated on the Wallachian mountain of the same name offers a remarkable view of the countryside. From its peak you can see Zlín, Lysá hora, the Vizovice Highlands, Hostýnské and Vsetínské vrchy, Javorníky, Chřiby and Beskid Mountains, but also the Slovakian mountain range Little Fatra or even the majestic Tatras. What is more interesting, in the Slovakia there is an observation tower which has its sister building. Both were opened in 2009, they are located at an altitude of 651 meters and connected by a network of nature trails. Their history is also similar. The Moravian Vartovna served as a watchtower, where fireplaces visible from the surrounding area were lit, while Slovak Tlstá mountain carried an Austrian-Hungarian observation tower, which served for military purposes.
Both sides of medal, the author of which is an expert medal maker Mgr. A. Jan Hásek, are dedicated to the unusual reinforced concrete construction of a spiral-shaped look-out tower with a spiral staircase. The obverse side presents the construction in its entirety, while the reverse side bears its detailed view of the complicated construction of the tube.
Collectors can save their collection of all twelve look-out towers to a luxurious wooden etui.
