Product description
In a series of commemorative medals minted from one-quarter ounce of gold we gradually present the most beautiful and interesting lookout towers from all over the Czech Republic. Now we introduce the Prague's Petřín lookout tower.
The appearance of this lookout tower was significantly influenced by the legendary Parisian Eiffel Tower. It is its replica, but five times smaller. The octagonal steel tower weighs 175 tons. It is 65 meters high (its top is at the same altitude as the actual Eiffel Tower), 72 meters including the antenna of the television transmitter, which was built on the top of the observation tower later. Another 11 meters, are the pillars of the foundation under the ground, which the visitors can explore in the basement of the building. The core of the construction forms of the observation tube, that serves as the elevator shaft. It is wrapped by two spiral staircases of 299 steps - the first is used to as an entry to two viewing platforms, from which the upper is located at a height of 55 meters, the second is to walk down.
The author of the artistic design of this gold mintage is a talented medal maker Petra Brodská, DiS. She has dedicated the obverse side to the view of the steel lookout tower from its heel, the reverse side then belongs to the detail of the truss construction and to the shoulder of the lookout tower anchored in a stone block. The inscriptions on both sides indicate PETŘÍNSKÁ ROZHLEDNA, VÝŠKA 65 m, 324 m n. m. /Petřin lookout tower, height 65 m, 324 m n. M./ and two dates March 16 - August 20, 1891, which define the the duration of the construction work.
Your collection of the most beautiful lookout towers will accommodate an elegant collectible casket made of wood with a thematic engraving. You can find it in the menu of the Czech Mint.
